Charitable Giving
The Charitable Giving Committee recommends to the Board of Directors how the club's charitable donations will be spent. There are two different processes...the first is allocation of the money that comes in through club fund raising events (Music Off Broadway, the Car Show, the American Folk Festival etc.). This process uses an annual RFP where non profits apply for grants.
The second process allocates donations to regular causes such as Little League, Bangor Y, BRLI and the United Way. Many of these ongoing community programs were initiated by the Bangor Rotary Club. This process is funded by the contribution members make to Rotary Charities through their annual fees.
In 2009 approx $26,000 was donated to local organizations.
The 2010 RFP went out in November, 2009. Decisions will be made in late 2009.
Anyone interested in joining the committee can come along to the next meeting on December 1st right after the regular Rotary meeting.
