The Rotary Club of Bangor welcomed five area young people to its weekly lunch meeting on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 to formally award scholarships funded by the Club.

The 2015 Rotary Club of Bangor scholarship recipients are:

  • Jayme Bickford, Hampden Academy
  • Tristan Gardner, Hampden Academy
  • Ellie Leighton, Brewer
  • Ashley Talon, Bangor
  • Helen Zhang, Bangor

The five students were selected by members of the Club’s scholarship committee from an impressive group of nominees and will share more than $6,000 in scholarships.  Since 1991, Rotary Club of Bangor has awarded more than $200,000 to high school graduates who are planning to further their education.

Worthy students are nominated by their high school guidance counselors based on the following criteria:
academics, participation in extra-curricular activities, citizenship, written essay, leadership qualities, and references.  In addition, we seek to honor students who best embody the qualities of Rotary’s “Four Way Test” – Is it the truth; is it fair to all concerned; will it build good will and better friendships; and will it be beneficial to all concerned.
