The Rotary Club of Bangor has announced that fundraising efforts for their recent production Music Off Broadway have surpassed all previous productions, bringing in more than $37,000.

Four performances of Music off Broadway were held on April 2, 3 and 4 at Bangor High School and featured a cast of more than 30 talented community members performing  songs from each of the past nine shows in honor of the event’s tenth year.  Since 2006, Bangor Rotary Club has raised nearly $200,000 for area non-profits through the production.  This year Rotarian Roger George finished his final year as producer of the show.  “Roger has been an amazing producer for the past decade,” said J. Bradford Coffey, Bangor Rotary Club president, “We are indebted to him for all he has done.”

Proceeds from the 2015 show will help several non-profit groups including Boys and Girls Club of Bangor, Penquis Child Development, and UMaine Center on Aging/Retired Senior Volunteer Program.  In addition, the event helps fund various other charities supported by Bangor Rotary, including Sarah’s House, Bangor East & West Little League, Bangor YMCA Wilderness Center at Camp Jordan, United Way of Eastern Maine and Rotary scholarships.

“Funding from the Bangor Rotary will be used to grow a new initiative being piloted this year by the UM Center on Aging Retired & Senior Volunteer Program called Roots for STEM,” said Paula Burnett, Program Director for UMaine’s UMaine Center on Aging/RSVP program.  “Roots for STEM will bring hands–on, child-centered math and science activities to children in grades K-6, led by senior volunteers age 55 and older with STEM–related expertise. We are deeply grateful for the Rotary Club’s support.”

Preparations are already underway for next year’s Music Off Broadway, an event which many in the community look forward to each spring.
